The SsangYong Musso is a bit of an unknown vehicle in the UK, despite the fact that SsangYong have been in the UK since 1996, and the Musso has been with us since 2006. Powering this brute is a 2.2 litre, turbocharged 4 cylinder diesel that puts out 200bhp and 440Nm of torque. It's so much, that this is the only truck in its class that can simultaneously tow 3.5 tonnes and carry a tonne in the back! So, the SsangYong Musso offers, great looks, creature comforts and superb driving characteristics, all for a low price. But is it any good? Presentamos una comparativa 4x4 entre dos pick-ups por todo lo alto. Por un lado tenemos a la legendaria Toyota Hilux y por otro tenemos a la novísima SsangYong Musso Sport, recién llegada al mercado. Vamos a someterlas a pruebas extremas para ver quién es más fuerte. ¿Cuál es la diferencia de precio entre una y otra? Precios sin IVA: SsangYong Musso Limited - 32.425 € Toyota Hilux GR Sport - 42.500 € Atendiendo a las cotas exteriores, el SsangYong es más largo, ancho y alto que su rival, si bien las diferencias son pequeñas. Si nos fijamos en las cotas todoterreno tenemos una clara vencedora y, en este caso, por goleada. La Toyota tiene mayor altura libre, sus ángulos característicos son muy superiores y su menor batalla también jugará a favor de sus capacidades 4x4. En un uso real, deberíamos encontrar bastantes sitios por donde la SsangYong no pueda pasar y la Toyota no tenga ningún problema. Pero vamos con la capacidad de carga. La Toyota nos ofrece 1.080 kg de carga útil en esta versión y aproximadamente un m3 de volumen en la caja, sin tener en cuenta los pasos de rueda. El Musso puede llegar a 1.085 kg en sus versiones de acceso, que llevan ballestas, pero en esta tope de gama con muelles traseros se queda en 870 kg. Donde se marcan las verdaderas diferencias es en el volumen que cabe aquí detrás. Esta caja es un 50% más grande que la de Toyota y la vence en todas las cotas. Aquí caben 1,5 m3 de volumen sin tener en cuenta los pasos de ruedea. El diseño interior de la SsangYong es más refinado y lujoso que el de la Toyota. Los materiales son mejores, los acabados también y la ergonomía es muy superior. La Toyota es un vehículo industrial que, en este acabado GR Sport se disfraza de coche deportivo generando una sensación de lo más contradictoria, mientras que la SsangYong nos recuerda mucho a un Rexton, es decir, un SUV de un cierto nivel de acabado. Los motores de ambas pickup son muy similares, entregando una potencia casi idéntica y un par similar a partir de dos bloques de 4 cilindros turbodiésel. Hemos de decir que, en carretera, los muelles traseros del Musso se comportan algo mejor que las terribles ballestas de la Hilux, diseñadas para soportar cargas extremas y trato duro, pero no para cuidar a los ocupantes. Pero vamos ya con las pruebas 4x4. DUBBIES (Cotas) En los dubbies el comportamiento de la Toyota es superior a su rival gracias a unas mejores cotas 4x4, con las que apenas roza una estribera en el primer socavón, que es el más profundo. La SsangYong tiene dos desventajas: roza en casi todos los cambios de apoyo y además su diferencial autoblocante tiene una actuación más violenta que el eficaz control de tracción electrónico de la Toyota. ESCALERA HACIA EL CIELO (tracción) En la escalera hacia el cielo se reproduce la situación anterior: la SsangYong es más violenta en tracción y roza de nuevo una estribera hasta doblarla ligeramente, mientras que la Toyota trepa con fluidez y apenas toca levemente el suelo. AUTOPISTA AL INFIERNO (tracción extrema) En este obstáculo de dificultad extrema, la Toyota alcanza la cima sin esfuerzo mientras que la SsangYong se queda atascada a medio camino, por culpa de un control de tracción incapaz de gestionar el par del tren delantero con la más mínima eficacia. Se comporta prácticamente como tracción trasera. CONCLUSIONES El interior de la SsangYong es superior al de la Toyota, y su volumen de carga en la caja supera en un 50% al que tenemos disponible en la Toyota. Su suspensión de muelles nos ha gustado más en carretera que las ballestas traseras de la Toyota, aunque esa característica limita los kilos que podemos echarle encima. Además de todo eso, su principal ventaja es una diferencia de 10.000 € en el precio que pesan como una losa en esta categoría. Pero vamos ya con la Toyota, 10.000 € más cara. Este vehículo es más tosco que la SsangYong su interior es más industrial y menos confortable y en carretera nos ha gustado algo menos, pero el objetivo principal de esta comparativa es ver cual de los dos era mejor todoterreno y, en este sentido, la Toyota ha demostrado ser claramente superior a la SsangYong por cotas y por capacidad de tracción.
