Airlines have been spending big to add more space and comfort to seats on board planes. According to AeroDynamic advisory, airplane seats were a $2.6 billion dollar market globally in 2022, almost half of $6.2 aircraft interiors market. U.S. airlines like American, Delta and United have been adding more premium seats to their fleets. Delta estimates its premium revenue will be 35% of total revenue this year compared to 24% in 2014. CNBC spoke to RECARO Aircraft Seating, Collins Aerospace and Delta about the trends in airplane seats and why airline are adding more premium options to their cabins. About Airbus A330 (from Wikipedia): The A330-200 is a shortened, longer-range variant, which entered service in 1998 with Korean Air. Typical range with 253 passengers in a three-class configuration is 13,400 km (7,240 nmi; 8,330 mi). The A330-200 is ten fuselage frames shorter than the original −300, with a length of 58.82 m (193 ft 0 in). To compensate for the smaller moment arm of the shorter fuselage, the vertical stabiliser height of the -200 was increased by 104 cm (40.9 in). The −200's wing was also modified; structural strengthening of the wing allowed the maximum takeoff weight of the −200 to be increased to 229.8 tonnes (507,000 lb). The −200 is offered with three engine types similar to those found on the −300, namely the General Electric CF6-80E, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or Rolls-Royce Trent 700. This video is inspired by all of the travel that we have done with budget airlines in 2022, we have used the insights we learnt from working with Ryanair in 2022 and of course we took inspiration from the AMAZING Wendover productions long form video on budget airlines. in this video we show you how budget airlines work. we go through some of the ways budget airlines are able to offer tickets at really low prices. The business model really took off in europe and has seen a rise in budget airlines such as easyjet, ryanair and wizz air. firstly You will notice budget airlines do not to use an air bridge to get off the pane and use a stairs instead. This is because It's cheaper. Budget airlines like ryanair only buy and use one type of airplane. Budget airlines use only one type of aircraft. (EasyJet only uses the Airbus A320). why is this? it's because when ordering aircraft, the business can get a bulk discount on the planes the Cabin crew onboard budget airlines will be at the beginning of their career. less experienced cabin crew are cheaper and their salaries are not as high. the budget airlines offer fewer amenities onboard. Aircraft maintenance can be costly (seat reclines, headrests, and in-flight entertainment screens). all plane amenities have to be have to be services and maintained regularly. Budget airlines reduce maintenance costs by removing these luxuries. ryanair and easy jet dont fly to major airports such as heathrow or JFK in new york. Landing fees at major airports cost more.
